PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance and corrosive wear resistance of a roll by preheating a conductor roll under a low-pressure atmosphere free from oxygen and then thermally spraying a material composed principally of Co or Ni on the above. CONSTITUTION:A conductor roll is preheated by using plasma arc, etc., under a low-pressure atmosphere of Ar gas, etc., practically free from oxygen. Subsequently, a corrosion- and wear-resisting thermal spraying material consisting of an alloy having a composition which is composed principally of Co and in which Cr-W-C-Fe or Cr-C-Fe-Ni-Mo is added or an alloy having a composition which is composed principally of Ni and in which Cr-W-Fe-Mo is added is thermally sprayed on the surface of the above roll to coat this surface. Further, if necessary, the resulting sprayed deposit is melted by means of plasma arc, by which a pore-free sprayed deposit free from oxides and having superior adhesive strength is formed, or further, hot isostatic pressing treatment is applied to the above roll coated with the pore-free sprayed deposit to make the above sprayed deposit high-density. |
