A method of printing a substrate by blind blocking, in which the substrate and a blocking-foil provided with a layer of pigment are, with the layer of pigment lying opposite the surface of the substrate which is to be printed, led together through an embossing station, in which the substrate and the blocking-foil with the application of heat become pressed together between a printing block and an impression-element, with transfer of pigments to the substrate, characterized in that at least the blocking-foil (20) is preheated before reaching the embossing station (30) and the embossing force is applied point-by-point or character-by-character serially in succession.
