The present invention relates to novel herbicidally-active and plant-growth-regulating quinoline and pyridine derivatives, processes for their preparation, compositions containing these compounds, novel intermediates, and the use of the compounds according to the invention as selective herbicides and plant growth regulators. The novel compounds are those of the formula I in which R1 represents C1-C4-alkyl; R2 and R3 independently of one another represent hydrogen; or C1-C4-alkyl; R1 and R2 together also represent a geminally bonded -(CH2)n- ring; m represents 3 or 4; n represents 2 to 5; A represents OH, O<(-)>M<(+)> or C1-C4-alkoxy; M<(+)> represents a cation equivalent of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal or of a nitrogen-containing base; B represents an imidazolone of the formula A and B together represent a fused imidazolone of the formula and salts of compounds of the formula I with acids, bases and sequestering agents.
