A mutein of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) which lacks 7 to 46 amino acids of the constituent amino acids of bFGF from carboxyl terminal possesses excellent fibroblast growth promoting activities, vasoendothelial cell growth promoting activities and angiogenic activities. It is very stable in living cells. The mutein of the present invention therefore function well as a healing promoter for burns etc., therapeutic drug for thrombosis, arteriosclerosis etc., and cell cultivation promoter.
