PURPOSE: To obtain a brake band having a high wear resistance without almost deteriorating a brake time even if oil is applied by thermally adhering a friction layer made of a carbide or oxide ceramics to a friction surface opposed to a rotary member of the band. CONSTITUTION: A brake drum 2 has a rotary shaft 7 and a coaxial wall 8. And, an outside surface of the wall 8 forms a brake surface opposed to a brake band 1. A frictional layer 18 carried to an inner surface 17 of the band 1 is made usefully of a tungsten carbide or a metal aluminum and oxide ceramics of a zircon or a silicon oxide. The band is formed merely by a ground sill of the frictional layer, may be formed of a spring steel not alloyed, and conveniently formed of a polyvalent alloy. The surface 17 of the band 1 is sandblasted. To enhance adhesive properties of the frictional layer, a titanium can be slightly mixed with base particles of the layer 18. A particle size of the layer 18 is 50μm or less, or preferably 30 to 40μm. The band 1 is plasma sprayed or flame sprayed.
