Heading C5D. A cleaning composition comprises a fluorochlorohydrocarbon solvent and a sodium, ammonium or amine salt of a monosulphonic acid derivative of a di-ester of succinic acid. The salt is most suitably soluble in the solvent, and may have alkyl or aryl substituent groups; the esterifying groups are alkyl, aryl or cycloaliphatic and contain 7-12 carbon atoms especially those with 8 or 9 carbon atoms. Specified fluorochlorohydrocarbon solvents are 1,2,2- trichloro-1,1,2-trifluoroethane, sym-tetrachlorodifluoroethane and trichlorofluoromethane. The composition preferably contains 0.25 to 33% surface active agent and not more than 33% water. A nonionic surface active agent is also preferably present such as alkyl phenol/alkylene oxide condensates, long chain fatty alcohol/alkylene oxide condensates and condensates of fatty amines or amides with alkylene oxides; the alkylene oxide is most usefully ethylene oxide. The nonionic surface active agent may be present in amounts up to double the amount of the sulphosuccinate, but usually it is present in amounts less than the sulphosuccinate. Ammonia may also be present in ranges of 50 to 2000 parts per million of the composition, and this is especially effective when an ammonium or amine salt of the sulphosuccinate is used. |
