A stackable load carrier comprises an open top box-like member with a bottom and side walls, for transporting and furnishing objects placed on said bottom. The carrier also comprises a frame connected to said bottom and having two pairs of opposed descending walls terminating in a lower edge surface with two similar opposed recesses in one pair of said descending walls, said recesses extending from said lower edge surface substantially up to said bottom and being dimensioned for insertion therein of at least one movable load-supporting member below said bottom. The frame also has two similar opposed windows in the other pair of said descending walls spaced laterally from said recesses and dimensioned for insertion therein of at least one movable load supporting member below said bottom. The frame is further dimensioned so that its inner periphery circumscribes the bottom of the open-top box-member. The descending walls are so adapted that: (a) in a stack with a superjacent load carrier resting directly on a subjacent load carrier, the descending walls engage the side walls of the subjacent load carrier to inhibit relative lateral movement of the load carriers in mutually perpendicular directions; (b) in a stack with the bottom of a superjacent load carrier resting on objects supported by a subjacent load carrier, the descending walls form retaining means for substantially embracing and holding together said objects placed on the bottom of the box-like member.
