发明名称 ESTIMATION OF CONNECTION LOSS FOR OPTICAL FIBER
摘要 PURPOSE:To determine a total connection loss handily together with a connection loss obtained from a deviation of axis and angle after heating, by determining a difference between the axis deviation before and after the heating at an optical fiber fused connection to estimate a connection loss due to an antiphase core strain. CONSTITUTION:When a single mode optical fiber 1 is connected by fusing in package without axial centering by a V-groove connection method, a connection loss due to axis and angle deviations is determined from the amount X of axis deviation and the amount theta of angle deviation after the end of heating the optical fiber 1. Then, a connection loss due to an antiphase core strain caused with a local bending of the core 2 at the connection is estimated from a difference between the axis deviation X before immediate after the heating and that after the end of the heating following the connection by fusing and the results are added up to project a total connection loss. This enables highly accurate estimation of the connection loss due to the antiphase core strain and the total connection loss by observing the outline of the connection thereby allowing handy discovery of poor connection parts.
