PURPOSE:To display the own position or a position of an object without increasing the capacity of a storage means by selecting a specific page in an atlas, based on map data which has been stored in the storage means and position information which has been detected by a position detecting means. CONSTITUTION:On a frame 31 having a space for installing an atlas, transparent optical fiber groups 32, 33, an input key group 34 and a character display part 35 are provided, and also, in the frame 31, a control circuit 36 is contained. On the control circuit 36, an external ROM 38 is provided so as to be attachable and detachable, and in this external ROM 38, data such as the number of pages of a prescribed atlas, coordinate of an origin of each page, etc., are stored. Based on map data which has been stored in the ROM 38 and position information which has been detected by a position detecting means, a specific page in the atlas is displayed on the character display part 35, and the position is displayed along it display. Also, as for the data in the atlas, data of a huge quantity such as a road, an intersection, a place name, etc., are unnecessary, therefore, it will suffice that the capacity of the storage means is small. |
