<p>PURPOSE:To accurately obtain the quantity of residual molten slag in a con verter by measuring the level of residual molten slag with a microwave level meter and detecting the quantity of residual slag from both the measured level and the previously preset profiles at every furnace cooling. CONSTITUTION:After finishing refining, molten steel and molten slag are dis charged. A converter 1 is made to a vertical state and the level of molten slag 4 is measured by projecting microwaves toward the molten slag 4 remaining in the converter 1 from a microwave level meter 3 provided on the upper hood 2. The quantity of the molten slag 4 remaining in the converter 1 is detected from both the measured level and the profiles at every furnace cooling of the converter 1 previously preset and stored in a computer. Since the microwaves are not affected by disturbance such as dust, accurate measurement is performed. Thereby the proper amount of lime can be charged at a time for refining the following charge.</p> |
