<p>PURPOSE:To make the joint section of two stripe-like panels thinner to such an extent that the joint section cannot be viewed as a joint section by providing a scan signal generating circuit to each stripe-like panel and, at the same time, enclosing gap sections by bonding transparent thin plates of glass to both side faces of each panel in the transversal direction. CONSTITUTION:A signal electrode 25 is formed in the longitudinal direction of each stripe-like panel 20 and a scanning electrode 26 is formed in the transversal direction of each panel 20. At the same time, a scan signal generating circuit 27 is provided to each stripe-like panel 20. Then, cell gap sections are enclosed by bonding transparent thin plates 30 of glass having a refractive index which is almost equal to the refractive indexes of stripe-like transparent electrode base plates 21 and 22 to both side faces of the panel 20 in the transversal direction. Since the scan signal generating circuit 27 is provided to each stripe-like panel 20, it becomes unnecessary to draw the scanning electrode 26 around the base plates 21 and 22 from the cell gap side to the rear side and both end faces of the stripe-like panel 20 in the transversal direction can be en closed by means of the thin plates 30. A liquid crystal display device with which the joint section of the panels 20 can easily be made thinner so as to improve the picture quality is obtained.</p> |
