PURPOSE: To simply connect lead-acid battery portions together via a connection section having no oxide with high energy efficiency by fusing lead-acid battery constituting elements with molten lead, and covering them with a layer of nonoxidizing gas. CONSTITUTION: When lead-acid battery plate lugs 10, 12 are to be connected, a trough 14 for receiving and shaping the molten lead 20 around the aligned lugs 10, 12 is formed. The flow of the molten lead is distributed to the lugs 10, 12 to be absorbed, and the lugs 10, 12 are fused by the molten lead in the trough 14. The trough 14 is covered with the nonoxidizing gas during the amalgamating stage. For covering the trough 14 with the nonoxidizing gas, a sufficient quantity of the ionizable nonoxidizing gas is fed to an electrode 34 to support arcs in the nonoxidizing atmosphere, and the lugs 10, 12 are wrapped in the nonoxidizing gas atmosphere heated by the arcs. |
