PURPOSE:To enhance the printing grade of a film ribbon, by performing printing by the proper printing energy corresponding to the kind of the ribbon. CONSTITUTION:A discriminating switch 4 is set at an OFF-position in the mount state of a fabric ribbon cartridge 3a and set at an ON-position in the mount state of a film ribbon cartridge 3b. Next, the current supply time(T1) suitable for a fabric ribbon and a current supply time(T2) suitable for a film ribbon are preliminarily stored in the memory apparatus of a printer and, corresponding to the mount state of each of the ribbon cartridges, printing is performed by printing energy determined on the basis of T1 in the case of the fabric ribbon cartridge 3a or T2 in the case of the film ribbon cartridge 3b. |
