PURPOSE:To easily and exactly set the address of an electronic mail by equipping a dictionary, which stores address information with a prescribed index as a key with being retrievable, retrieving the dictionary based on the inputted key and setting the address information. CONSTITUTION:A dictionary 2 stores the address information (O/R name), which is composed of the same index as the address stored in a system, with the two indexes of a first name and a last name as the key with being retrievable. A user stores the O/R name in a file form to the auxiliary storage of a magnetic disk device, etc., in advance. On the other hand, on an initial picture 1a displayed on a terminal display 1, the two indexes of the first name and last name, which are the key of the dictionary 2, are displayed and after the retrieval of the dictionary, in a picture 1b to be displayed on the terminal display 1, all the indexes of the O/R name and a detected result are displayed. Based on the inputted key, this dictionary 2 is retrieved and the address information are set. Thus, the setting of the address information can be easily and exactly executed.
