The signal transmitter of the device for reversing the stroke of the punching head is to be arranged in such a way that it is protected even in the absence of a separate cover. The signal transmitter is arranged between two punch components which can be acted upon by the punching pressure and protect the signal transmitter against damage. Furthermore, the signal transmitter is provided with an elastically deformable component which has electrical properties which can be modified in dependence on the deformation and permit the transmission of signals. The signal transmitter is therefore also protected against disturbance to a very substantial extent by the way in which it is constructed. <IMAGE>
