PURPOSE: To obtain a nuclear fuel for indicating both the increase in a grain size and increase in creep speed by sintering the compression body of a specific composition made of uranium dioxide and aluminosilicate. CONSTITUTION: Uranium dioxide powder containing a fissile material and a sintering agent made of approximately 10-60wt.% Al2 O3 and the remaining SiO2 are mixed and a mixture containing the sintering agent with a ratio of approximately 0.1approximately 1wt.% in reference to both total amount is prepared. The mixture is formed as a compression body and the compression body is sintered at a sintering temperature so that a sintering agent forms a liquid phase under conditions where the ratio of oxygen to uranium ranges from approximately 1.7 to 2.25. After going through various kinds of processes for cooling the sintered product, uranium dioxide sintered body can be obtained, where each of a particle of about 20μm that occupies at least approximately 99vol.% of the entire uranium dioxide particle is covered with glassshaped aluminosilicate phase without remaining any exposed part and a porosity within a range from approximately 2vol.% to less than 10vol.% is provided.
