NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I[R<1> represents H, OH or formula II (n is 1-5); R<2> represents methoxy or H] or salt thereof. EXAMPLE:7-O-(3,4-Di-O-acetyl-6-deoxy-2-O-methyl-alpha-L-talopyranosyl) daunomycine. USE:An antitumor agent. PREPARATION:Daunomycine or 4-demethoxydaunomycine expressed by formula III is reacted with a 6-deoxy-2-O-methyl-alpha-L-talopyranosyl.halide or 3,4-O- protected derivative thereof expressed by formula IV (X is represents Br, I or Cl; Y represents H or OH-protecting group) to form a compound expressed by formula V. Then if the OH-protecting group Y remains therein, the remaining OH-protecting group is removed from the compound.
