Phase-controlled antenna

For a phase-controlled antenna having one or more rows of radiating elements, the rows of radiating elements are designed as waveguide-slot antennas, in the case of which probes which couple to the waveguide wave are arranged in the waveguide, via which probes the waveguide is loaded, at the location of the probes and by means of switchable diodes, with a variable susceptance. Switching over the diode produces a phase shift. Despite there being a small phase shift in a single phase-shifting element formed by a probe and diode, considerable lobe pivoting can be achieved by a large number of elements and summation of the phase shifts of the series phase-shifting arrangement. The combination of phase shifters of extremely small size with the waveguide-slot antenna of simple construction results in a cost-effective, space-saving and weight-saving antenna with electronic beam pivoting in two dimensions, while maintaining the frequency agility and capability for multi-function operation.
