A negative acting photographic material capable of producing a high contrast image comprising a photographic silver halide emulsion in association with a water-insoluble hydrazine in the form of microcystals having a mean particle size of not more than 10 microns, preferably 0.05 to 5 microns. The microcrystals may be in the photographic silver halide emulsion or in a layer adjacent thereto.
