A turbine blade is formed from an airfoil blank having V-grooves (12) in the outer surface and indentations (26) in the inner surface. Slots (30) are machined at the root of the groove (12) intersecting the indentations (26), and providing a smooth flow path for film cooling air discharging along the blade surface. A step change (42) accross the slot between the leading edge surface (16) and the main body surface (44) facilitates smooth introduction of cooling air. Blade surface edge (48) may be rounded.
