PURPOSE:To enable a full-color representation and a gradation representation and to prevent a scumming and an unexpected color-forming, by a method wherein a plurality of fine particles different in color-forming and dielectric characteristics are made of a coloring and decoloring material. CONSTITUTION:Fine particles made of a dye coloring and decoloring by an oxidation reduction reaction and an electrolytic medium having an electrical conductivity sufficient to cause the oxidation-reduction reaction of the dye due to heat are used as a coloring and decoloring material. The plurality of fine particles producing colors different from each other and having different dielectric characteristics are held on a substrate. In this manner, by applying AC potentials having different frequencies according to an image signal and by selectively heating the particles, the coloring and decoloring state of the respective particles can be controlled separately by a direct current. On the other hand, the electrolytic medium composed of a material increasing its electrical conductivity due to heat obtains conductive properties and accelerates the oxidation reduction reaction of the dye when being heated. |
