A method of subsequently sealing dumps, contaminated areas or the like, wherein a soil layer is first excavated by shield driving using mining techniques underneath the dump or contaminated area and, as the excavation advances, a sealing sheet (8) is laid and wherein the resultant cavity behind the shield construction is backfilled and stabilized, characterized by partial backfilling of excavated material above the sealing sheet (8) with simultaneous stabilizing of the backfill (12) with building materials and/or stabilizing waste products.</p> |
