To control the growth of an ice bank (99) around cooling coils (100), the invention uses four resistance probes (5-8). In addition to an earthed probe (6) and spaced sensing probes (7,8) which control operation of a compressor (101) in a manner which provides a dead-band, a reference probe (5) is provided to compensate for variations in the resistivity of the water surrounding the ice bank (99). A mounting for adjustably mounting the probes (5-8) on the coils (100) is described (figs 2-4), as is a housing for printed control circuitry (figs 5-8). <IMAGE> |
