Unravelling of the edges of knitwear is prevented by using at least for the last two rows at the edge of the knitwear a double thread of a fusible thread and a heat shrinkable thread. A heat treatment causes the former to fuse but not the latter. The joint between consecutive knitwear sections is made of a water-soluble material such as polyvinyl alcohol turned into filaments.
