Phenoxides of formula (I), in which R1 is carbamoyl and R2 is isopropyl, are purified for use in pharmaceutical compsns. for treatment of cardio-vascular changes due to beta-adrenergic activity, by (a) reaction with an aralkyl halide, e.g., benzyl chloride to form the N-benzylated cpd., successive crystallisation with NaOH to 100% purity as determined by HPLC; (b) catalytic hydrogenation; and
