摘要 PURPOSE:To easily manufacture a microminiaturized device by forming a spiral optical waveguide on a glass substrate or an optical single crystal substrate and allowing a start and a termination of this optical waveguide to face the outer wall of the substrate. CONSTITUTION:On a glass substrate 1 of about 2mm thick consisting of multi component glass, etc., a spiral optical waveguide 2 of 5mum line width whose refractive index is different from that of the pheripheral substrate by diffusing Tl. The glass substrate 1 has a size of 70X100mm, and as for the optical waveguide 2, it is wound round five times and its overall length is 800mm. The optical waveguide is formed to an elliptical spiral shape to match a shape of the glass substrate 1, and a light entering part 2a being its start is opened on the left side wall of the substrate 1. Also, a termination side of the optical waveguide 2 is drawn out of the center part of the spiral and provided adjacently and in parallel to a part of the start part, by which a waveguide coupler part 3 is formed, and the coupler part 3 has an action for allowing a part of a light beam which has been made incident from the light entering part 2a to branch and advancing it in reverse through the spiral waveguide, and the light beam which has passed through the waveguide 2 and the coupler part 3 is outputted from a light emitting part 2b.
