The scraping device has several elongate members which are rigid due to applied tensile stress and are in the form of pins, rods, strips or ropes. Guides rollers guide the members in a selected, closed path having at least one active straight part. A transporting vehicle conveys the members transversely along the path. The closed path extends at an interval outside the path of the transporting vehicle allowing scraped off material to be discharged freely. The transporting vehicle has a drive with a transporting part that is trained over guide wheels or rollers. It is flexible in the transporting direction and is blocked against torsion in the straight part of the path. A chain with protruding hinge pins is also part of the transporting drive.
