Compact transformer for electronic lamp, ballast or HF converter - uses superconducting material and magnetic screening to reduce capacitive coupling

The transformer is designed for use in h.f. resonant d.c. -d.c. converters. The prim. (2) and sec. (6) coils are made from superconducting material so that the coils can be placed close together to achieve the required coupling factor. The transformer stack has a sandwich construction with outer superconducting screens (1,7). Between the prim. and sec. coils are superconducting screens (3,4). Layers of electrical insulating material are interposed between all the other elements of the transformer. There may be a number of auxiliary windings strongly coupled with the prim. coil.
