PURPOSE:To maintain linear polarization satisfactorily by applying lateral pressure beforehand to the axis of polarization of an optical fiber from the side. CONSTITUTION:A tension member 1 is provided at the center of a cable and optical fibers 2 are arranged around it with their axes of polarization nearly at right angles to the diameter of the cable. Buffer layers 4 are provided between the optical fibers 2, and a cover 3 is provided on the outside of the optical fibers. The cover 3 is a heat-shrinkable tube. It shrinks by heating and fastens the optical fibers 2 to the tension member 1. |
