Organic materials in an air-stream, esp. styrol from polyester processing plant, and which have low. aq. solubility, are sepd. by washing with mineral oil whose b.pt. exceeds 150 deg.C at normal pressure, and which after the washing process is burned. At the foot of the washer (20), wherein the washing liq. is applied from overflow channels (22) or from sparyh spary nozzles (29), the liq. reacting a collector chamber (24) fro pumped circulation (17) and for transfer to the burner supply tank(s). Downstream of the first washer a second washed uses water with tensiles and emulsifiers. ADVANTAGE - Air is purified without giving rise to further environmental pollution.
