PURPOSE:To reduce errors in color correction and improve the reproducibility of colors, by calculating and utilizing the value of a color system common to each of separated image data when compressing and converting four-color- separation image data into three-color-separation image data. CONSTITUTION:Since image data separated in four colors cannot be compressed and converted directly into three-color-separation image data, a color system common to both image data is utilized. Color-separation image data of four input colors Y1, M1, C1 and K are respectively converted by a first color converting means 70 to be compressed printing data of each color. At this time, K is equivalently added to each value of Y, M and C. In color converting units 71-73 to which the printing data Y, M and C are respectively supplied, compressed printing data Y', M' and C' are stored respectively, which are referred to by printing data (Y1 and K), (M1 and K) and (C1 and K), respectively. Then, the compressed printing data Y', M' and C' are corrected in color by a second color converting means 10 so as to be fit for a recording medium such as a printing paper. Thus, the color-corrected, compressed printing data Y0, M0 and C0 are recorded on the printing paper. |
