PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR DIRECTLY MAKING LIQUID PIG-IRON FROM COARSE IRON ORE

Liquid. pig-iron is directly produced from lump ore, which is reduced in a direct-reduction shaft furnace in the form of a loose bulk by a hot reduction gas to sponge Fe. This is extracted hot and conveyed by at least one connecting duct to a melter gasifier, in which heat required for melting the Fe and the reduction gas are produced from coal that is introduced and from O2-containing gas that is blown in. First portion of the reduction gas flow is blown into the reduction zone of the shaft furnace, after cooling and dust separation, and a second portion developed in the direct path between the gasifier and the shaft furnace, is limited to 30 vol.% of total reduction gas introduced into the shaft furnace.
