In a fuel system for a motor vehicle, the fuel passes from the fuel tank by way of a feed line to an intake system of the internal combustion engine, the fuel not required being fed back to the fuel tank from the intake system by way of a return line. In addition, a venting line of the fuel tank is connected to an activated charcoal canister. So that liquid or condensed fuel is prevented from flowing into the activated charcoal canister under all operating conditions of the motor vehicle, a collecting vessel is arranged in the venting line upstream of the activated charcoal canister. The fuel accumulated in the collecting vessel is returned into the fuel tank by way of the return line.
