The invention relates to a spur-wheel change-speed gearbox, particularly for motor vehicles, with at least six forward gears, which can be changed under load, and at least two reverse gears, consisting of a double clutch which is arranged on an input shaft and can be operated under load, one part of which is connected to an input shaft and the other part of which is connected to a hollow input shaft mounted rotatably on the first-mentioned input shaft, of an output shaft which extends through the entire gearbox casing and is not coaxial with the input shaft, of an auxiliary shaft for the reverse gear and of a plurality of gear trains which can be connected selectively to the input and output shafts via synchronisable selector clutches. In order, for safety reasons, to completely eliminate the possibility of incorrect gear changes at little cost in a spur-wheel change-speed gearbox of this kind and to reduce the number of actuating elements, two gear wheels (13, 14) rotatably mounted on the output shaft (8) can be selectively connected either directly to the output shaft (8), via a respective selector clutch (g, h), or to one another, via a hollow shaft (13a), by a selector clutch (h). <IMAGE>
