A high-tension unit for supplying picture tubes comprises a cascade circuit and also a capacitor element in parallel with the tube within one constructional body. To dispense with the separate capacitor element parallel to the tube, it is proposed to make the capacitances of the capacitors of the DC chain at least twice the capacity of the capacitors of the AC chain of the cascade circuit. Furthermore, the series circuit of the capacitors of the capacitor element in parallel with the tube can also be provided inside the constructional body for the cascade circuit, with in each case one common capacitor element for a capacitor of the capacitor element in parallel with the tube and of the DC chain.
