The invention relates to a process for purifying flue gases of an incineration plant for domestic refuse and special wastes. In such incineration plants there is the problem that the solids separated off from the flue gases contain both heavy metal and also dioxins and furans. Therefore, these solids separated off must either be stored in special landfills or otherwise further processed. Because of the considerable quantities of the solids arising, both solutions are unsatisfactory. To solve this object, the invention provides that the majority of the solids entrained in the flue gas are separated off by dry dust filtration and the residual solids are separated off in a downstream acid flue gas scrubber. In this case the solids of the dry dust filtration are melted and the solids elutriated from the flue gas scrubber water are washed and filtered. As a result, the majority of the solids are present in a form utilisable as building material and only a small part of the solids must either be landfilled or further processed.
