To reduce positioning variability, a repositionable optionally stentless bitewing film holder (1) has been developed for use in general practice. It has two broad flat occlusal biting platforms (3, 4) which cross both sides of the dental arch. This both stabilises the holder (1) and centres the interocclusal space onto the middle of the film which is important for monitoring alveolar bone as well as approximal regions. The device can be modified to hold films in the bite-wing or periapical positions. A fixed or movable film holder (8) can be located within an aperture (7) defined by a platform (2) from which the biting platforms (3, 4) extend. Precise dental X-ray co-ordinates can be read off scales (9, 10) and recorded for subsequent X-rays at the same location with more consistent accuracy. |
