Plate-shaped tools with a corner cut-out which does not extend up to the opposite corner so that no new cutting edge can be put into use by turning it are the state of the art. The disadvantage of such a tool consists in the fact that its tip has only a single cutting edge, after the wear of which the tip is unserviceable. The object of the invention is to achieve longer life than in tips with a single cutting edge. This object is achieved by virtue of the fact that the corner cut-out (26) is designed as an edge recess (12), that is, it connects two plane-parallel main faces (18) of the tip (10), with which the parallel base faces (28) of the cutting element (14) of straight cylindrical shape are coplanar. The advantage of this solution consists in the fact that, after the cutting edge on one main face of the tip has sustained wear, the tip can be turned in order to put the cutting edge at the other main face into use, so that the life of the tool is roughly doubled without doubling the cost of production. <IMAGE>
