In the drying section of a paper or board machine, a paper web (W) runs around drying cylinders (2a, 2b) in serpentine fashion. The drying section is fitted with conduits through which suction (S) is realised for stabilisation of the paper web passage. One or more of the cylinders (2b) are fitted with conduits (6) in order to supply the internal space of a drying cylinder (2b) with low pressure (S). The jacket of the cylinder (2b) is fitted with flow channels which are connected to the conduits (6), in order to achieve suction (S) outside the cylinder jacket both in the sector which is occupied by the paper web passage and in the sector not occupied by the paper web passage. <IMAGE>
