A bar shield (1) for the face support in collieries is described, to the front cantilever (2) of which a slide bar (3) displaceable in the direction of advance by means of a slide cylinder (4) is attached. The slide bar (3) is provided with at least one water nozzle (14) which is directed towards the roof and/or towards the coal face and is connected via a hose (24) or the like to a connecting member (15), fastened to the front cantilever (2), of a pressure-water line (16). To create a reliably protected connection between the water nozzles (14) and the pressure-water line (16), a water pipe (17) attached to the pressure-water line (16) is arranged axially in the slide cylinder (4). The water pipe (17) projects into an axial blind bore (18) of the displaceable piston rod (7) of the slide cylinder (4). The blind bore (18) is connected via a hose (24) to the water nozzle or nozzles (14). The blind bore (18) is conveniently provided with a sealing ring (19) bearing against the outer circumference of the water pipe (17). <IMAGE>
