Milling tool

A milling tool has a tool body (1) which possesses at its circumference a plurality of flutes (7) offset at equal angular distances from one another in the circumferential direction and running helically with respect to the axis of rotation (3). Along an at least approximately radially rising side wall (13) of each flute there are fixed by means of screws, spaced apart from one another, a multiplicity of cutting inserts (15), each of which is fixed in a separate pocket of the side wall (13). The cutting inserts (15) and the pockets have mutually complementary peripheral walls which run towards one another on all sides obliquely with respect to the side wall (13) of the flute (7) and which retain the cutting inserts (15) in a manner terminating substantially flush with the side wall (13) of the flute (7), which is also, moreover, substantially smooth-faced. The thread axes of the screws run transversely to the side wall (13) through the points of intersection between a helical line (33), common to all flutes (7), and the side wall (13). The helix angle of the flutes (7) is, relative to an axially normal plane, preferably less than 70@ and increases in the region of the front end of the tool body (1). The cutting inserts (15) have either a truncated-cone shape or elongated shape terminated by a half truncated cone. <IMAGE>
