Process and dyeing tube for the uniform compaction of yarn

For the uniform compaction of yarn packages attached to dyeing tubes, there is exerted on the dyeing tubes and the yarn packages an axial pressure by which first the dyeing tubes are pushed one into the other and, at the same time, in each case at least one edge region of each yarn package is displaced. The dyeing tubes are subsequently shortened, in each case at least one middle region of each yarn package likewise being shortened. To carry out this process, there is proposed a dyeing tube which has two annular end portions (1 and 2) and an axially shortenable middle portion (3). The end portion (1) is formed from a ring (4), the inside diameter of which corresponds to the outside diameter of a ring (5) which forms the end portion (2). The middle portion (3) consists of subdividing rings (8) which are connected to one another via arcuate spacer elements (9). Two arcuate spacer elements (9) in each case form, with the subdividing rings (8) to be connected in each case, a spacer ring (10) which, under an axial compression of the tube, relinquishes its circular shape and changes to an elliptical shape, without parts of the spacer elements (9) or of the subdividing rings (8) being pressed onto one another. <IMAGE>
