The invention relates to a process for producing highly porous light-weight mouldings produced by extrusion or plastic forming using a slip containing refractory or fire-resistant materials and a foaming agent and also light-weight mouldings produced by the process. The process of the invention is characterised in that the foam slip or the slip mixed with a separately produced foam, which slip contains a part of the refractory or fire-resistant material, is admixed with a dry mixture of opening materials and the remaining part of the refractory or fire-resistant materials and subsequently the moulding is produced in a manner known per se. The light-weight mouldings produced by the process of the invention are highly porous and can have porosities of 75 % or greater.
