A continuous process for the degradation of nitroglycerine in the residual aclds from glycerol nitration comprises adding water or dilute sulphuric acid to the residual acids to improve the solubilisation of the nitroglycerine and then passing the residual acids to a plant comprising a circulating loop which comprises successively, in the direction of circulation of the acids, an inlet for the acids after addition of water or dilute sulphuric acid, an external microwave heating system for the acids, an outlet for the mixture thus treated, and an outlet for nitrous fumes. The invention also provides plant for carrying out this process.
