PURPOSE:To make probability that focus detection is possible high by setting the initial stopping position of a lens according to a photographing magnification which is used often before starting the focus detection. CONSTITUTION:If a lens 1 is in a position which is used often, the probability that the focus detection can be possible is high. Then, the initial stopping position Ns of the lens 1 is determined by a lens position determining means 3 based on a specified photographing magnification determined according to the lens 1. And a control means 6 controls a lens driving means 4 so as to drive the lens 1 to the initial stopping position Ns before a focus detecting means 2 performs a focus detecting action with the operation of an operating member 5. At the time of performing the focus detecting action, the lens 1 has already been set in the initial stopping position Ns determined based on the photographing magnification and the probability that the focus detection can be possible is made high. |
