PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for cyan coupler in photographic chemical field, etc., in one process and good yield, by reacting a 4-halogeno-1-naphthol with an alkylthiols in the presence of a base. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 is a group capable of substituting at an aromatic ring; X is Cl, Br or F; m is 0-6) is reacted with a compound expressed by the formula R2SH (R2 is alkyl) in the presence of a base (e.g., NaOH) in a solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide at -78-250 deg.C to provide the aimed product expressed by formula II. The compound expressed by formula II and base are each used at molar ratio of 0.01-1000 and 0.1-100. |
