The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for manufacturing thermoplastic materials with the aid of extruders. To do so, gaseous substances are removed essentially completely from a reaction extruder, the removal of volatile substances in the following extruder remaining restricted essentially to condensable substances. In the case of the apparatus, a forced conveying device arranged between the reaction extruder and the following treatment units has the effect of isolating the pressure conditions and conveying conditions of the following treatment units from the preceding reaction extruder.
