The invention relates to a locknut (10) designed to co-operate with a threaded body (16) in order to enable two parts (12, 14) to be clamped together in the axial direction. According to the invention, the nut comprises a plastic ring (24) having a bore (36) whose initial internal diameter is greater than the external diameter of the thread of the threaded body to allow it to be slipped on axially. As axial tightening is applied, the ring undergoes plastic deformation through the action of a tightening tube (26) which interacts with the outer peripheral surface (40) of the ring to bring about a reduction in said internal diameter and create an internal thread on the surface of said bore (36). The outer peripheral surface of the ring has areas (40) at an angle from the axis: these form gradients of axial clamping with which the internal surface (42) of the tightening tube (26) interacts as it is pushed axially onto the ring (24) to accomplish the axial tightening operation.

|
