In successively inserting straw bales into a packaging tube an insertion horn 2 is used, which externally accommodates a tubular packaging in the form of a film sheeting, gathered or folded together, which is deployed as the horn, is successively advanced on the field. The tubular packaging 18 should fit fairly tightly on the horn, but is therefore correspondingly difficult to attach. In the case of the invention, the cylindrical horn 10 is designed with one or more partially cylindrical plate or hoop parts 4' that can be swung inwards and forwards around a front edge area of the horn cylinder, thereby facilitating the insertion of a tight- fitting tubular packaging. After insertion, the plate or hoop parts 4' are swung back into the normal position and locked in that position, by means of which the tubular packaging 18 is stretched and remains stretched or tight- fitting. <IMAGE>
