A method of combating undesirable plant growth and of regulating plant growth, which comprises allowing a herbicidal or plant-regulating amount of a compound of the formula I <IMAGE> (I) in which R1 is SR2; OR2; O-CHR10R2; N(R3) (CHR10R4); N(R11)(CHR10R4) or NR3R4; R2 is optionally substituted C1-C10-alkyl C1-C4-haloalkyl; C3-C8-alkenyl; (3-methyloxetan-3-yl)methyl; C3-C8-alkynyl; or an optionally substituted radical from the group comprising phenyl, benzyl, C3-C7-cycloalkyl, furanyl or furfuryl R3 and R4 independently of one another are hydrogen; an optionally substituted phenyl or benzyl radical; C1-C8-alkyl; or C3-C6-cycloalkyl; or R3 and R4, together with the nitrogen atom, form a saturaated 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring which contains up to two heteroatoms from the group comprising N, O and S and can be mono- or disubstituted by C1-C4-alkyl; R5 is hydrogen; halogen; C1-C8-alkyl; C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-haloalkyl; nitro; cyano; C1-C4-haloalkoxy; phenylthio; di-C1-C4- alkylamino; phenyl; or is optionally substituted phenoxy; and R6 and R7 independently of one another are hydrogen; halogen; C1-C8-alkyl; C1-C4-haloalkyl; C1-C4-alkoxy; C1-C4-haloalkoxy; nitro; cyano; or di-C1-C4-alkylamino, and R10 and R11independently of one another are C1-C4-alkyl; and salts of compounds of the formula I with acids and bases, to act on the plants or on the environment of the plants, and novel compounds of the formula I' <IMAGE> (I') process for their preparation and herbicidal or plant growth-regulating compositions containing these novel compounds.
